A message from Professor Sir Stewart Cole, Chair of Pasteur Foundation - UK
As we celebrate the first anniversary of the launch of the Pasteur Foundation – UK, and reflect on our progress, I wanted to take the opportunity to write to thank you for your interest in our new foundation.

As you know, at Pasteur Foundation – UK, we acknowledge that the challenges we face today – whether in research, public health, medical innovation or public trust – are too vast and global to be solved by any single institution or country and thus we seek to promote mutually beneficial cross-channel research through strong partnerships with many leading UK institutions.

One such partnership is our joint PhD programme with the University of Oxford, which we were pleased to present at our soirée in April this year, and again at the event we ran in Paris in November in collaboration with the UK’s former Chief Medical Officer, Dame Sally Davies and the British Embassy.

The Pasteur- Oxford joint PhD is a partnership between the Institut Pasteur and the Department of Chemistry at the University of Oxford that conducts cutting-edge research at the interface of chemistry and biology to tackle the global challenge of antimicrobial resistance.
Earlier this Autumn, Pasteur- Oxford PhD student, Will Bolland, successfully completed his PhD having spent time in labs at both institutions. You can read an interview with Will here in which he tells us more about why the dual-country aspect enhanced both his research, and that of the Institut Pasteur and the University of Oxford more widely.

We were delighted to award our first grant earlier this year to Will as part of the Pasteur-Oxford PhD funding he received. This was thanks to the wonderful generosity of our Pasteur Foundation – UK donors.

We have ambitious plans for 2025 including building on our major partnerships with Oxford University and the Francis Crick Institute and developing our Franco-British student mobility programme. We are immensely grateful to everyone who has already given to Pasteur Foundation – UK this year and helped promote our cause. We would be delighted if next year, thanks to your generosity, we could go even further.

I look forward to staying connected and, in the meantime, I wish you and your family a very merry Christmas and a happy and healthy 2025.

With warm regards,
